Packatahnas Compete at UPA Americup 2010
The West Fargo High School Junior Varsity Packatahnas took both 1st and 2nd place in the Grand Champion dance competition the weekend of February 19-21, 2010, at the United Performing Association’s Americup Competition in Minneapolis for their High Kick and Pom routines.
In addition, they brought home 3 more trophies for 1st place results in High Kick, Pom and Jazz divisions.
The members of the team are Dana Murray, Emily Burdick, Alexis Amundson, Kylee Walsvik, Chelsey Ranum, Amanda Marinucci, Courtney Grove, Elli Smiler, Brittin Zimmerman, Madison Adams, September Olsen, Abby Hagle, and Taylor Ostern.
They are coached by Lynae Opdahl and Hillary Ehlen.
The Varsity Packatahnas took 1st place in their High Kick and Hip Hop divisions.
They took 2nd place in pom and 5th place in jazz. In addition, the varsity team was awarded best costume for their kick uniform.
Varsity team members are Allison Heinen, Sasha Steichen, Elizabeth Kossan, Amy Matzke, Jordan Reznecheck, Madison Beyer, Crystal Boerger, Alexis Cowley, Kylie Davis, Brooke Freeman, Ashley Gerdes, Brianna Gratz, Katie Groth,
Madison Schommer, Amber Swart, Ashley Vangerud, Madison Novacek, Shantell Olson, and Ashley Swart.
The Varsity Packatahnas are coached by Jordan Jost, Gretchen Stafslien, and Kallista Nilson.
Varsity and JV dancers also competed individually in kick, leap, solo and small group competitions.
Jordan Reznecheck took 1st place and Ally Heinen took 2nd place in the individual kick competition for 11/12th grade.
For 9/10th kick competition, Brooke Freeman took 1st, Alexis Cowley took 2nd, Ashley Gerdes 3rd, Katie Groth 4th, and Shantell Olson 5th.
Sasha Steichen took 2nd place in 11/12th grade individual leap competition.
For 9/10th individual leap competition Amber Swart took 1st place and Madison Beyer took 4th.
Amber Swart also placed 3rd in the 9th/10th grade solo competition.
The West Fargo Elite dance team, a group of 16 sixth, seventh and eighth, graders, coached by Jordan Jost and Claire Moltzan, earned 6th place trophies for their pom and jazz routines..
The Packatahnas want to thank the community, school, and local businesses for all their wonderful support during this very successful competition season.

Packatahnas Compete at Nationals 2010
The West Fargo High School Packatahna Dance Team competed at Universal Dance Association’s National Dance Team Competition in Orlando over the February 6th and 7th, 2010, weekend.
They earned 2nd place in the Varsity High Kick category out of a field of 30 competitors.
They placed 15th out of 48 teams in the Large Varsity Pom category.
For this national competition teams participating must qualify through a UDA Summer Camp.
At the camp, teams that receive a superior trophy are invited to compete in this National Competition in Florida.
This insures the nation’s best teams are competing for the national title.
The Packatahnas competed with other nationally recognized teams including Eden Prairie HS of Minnesota, Floyd Central and Crown Point High Schools of Indiana and Seminole and The Villages High Schools of Florida.
Teams came from as far away as Washington, New Mexico, Oklahoma and California.

2010 North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill State Competition
The West Fargo High School Packatahnas came home with three first place Varsity trophies in High Kick, Jazz and Hip Hop; and three first place JV trophies in High Kick Jazz, and Pom from NDADD state dance competition this season.
State Champion Varsity and Junior Varsity Packatahnas 01/30/2010
The North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill state competition was held this past weekend January 29th and 30th ,2010, at Minot State University. Dance teams competing are scored by experienced judges based on the dance category, execution, difficulty, skills, choreography, and showmanship.
Teams from West Fargo, Fargo North, Fargo South, Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Hebron-Glen Ullen, Kindred, Minot Bishop Ryan, Thompson, Underwood, Washburn, Bismarck St. Mary’s, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Jamestown, Mandan, Minot,
Beulah, Carrington, Center-Stanton, Central Cass, Hazen, Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock, Bismarck Horizon, Bismarck Simle, Bismarck Wachter, Fargo Ben Franklin, Fargo Carl Ben, Fargo Discovery, and West Fargo Cheney Middle School were present and competed.
Approximately 620 dancers from around the state performed. Dance categories included high kick, jazz, hip hop and pom. Dance divisions included Varsity Class A, Varsity Class B, Junior Varsity and Junior High.

Packatahnas Take First at Spirit Cup
The West Fargo Varsity Packatahnas won the Crowd Appeal Award for their High Kick routine at the Mall of America UDA (Universal Dance Association) Spirit Cup Competition Saturday, January 9, 2010.
According to UDA Staff, this award is given to the one routine of the entire competition which caused jaws to drop and the crowd to say "WOW!" .
The team won first place in the Varsity High Kick Division and took second in the Large Varsity Pom Division.
The Junior Varsity Packatahnas took first place in the JV Jazz Division and second place in the JV Pom Division. They also won Best Costume Award for their Kick uniforms.
Other West Fargo teams competing were the West Fargo Elite, who placed second in the Junior Pom Division, and the West Fargo Cheney Middle School Mystikix, who placed first in both the Junior High Jazz and Hip Hop Divisions.
Other North Dakota and area teams competing were Fargo North, Bismarck High, and Suz Dance Studio out of Barnesville. NDSU took second place in both the College Hip Hop and Dance Divisions. UND placed eighth and Concordia ninth in the College Dance Division.

West Fargo Packatahnas Sweep Bismarck High Invite
The West Fargo Varsity and Junior Varsity Packatahna Dance Teams took home first place trophies in every event at the Bismarck High Demonette Dance Invitational December 19th, 2009, in Bismarck.
The Varsity team competed in High Kick, Jazz, Pom and Hip Hop categories. The Junior Varsity team competed in High Kick, Jazz and Pom divisions.
Other Varsity Class A teams present were the Bismarck High Demonettes, Bismarck Century Centahnas, Bismarck St. Mary’s Saintiques, Fargo South Bruinkix, Fargo North Spartacas, Devils Lake Dazzlers, Dickinson Midgettes, Jamestown Sophistikix, Mandan Kachinas, and Minot Majettes.
Class B teams competing were the Beulah Sapphires, Central Cass Casseltinas, Hazen Highlights, HMB Tigerettes, Washburn Expressions, and the Hebron-Glen Ullin Kickin’ It Dance Team.
Junior Varsity teams competing were Bismarck Demonettes, Bismarck Century Centahnas, Bismarck St. Mary’s Saintiques, Fargo South Bruinkix, Mandan Kachinas, and Minot Majettes.

West Fargo Packatahnas Hosts 15th Annual Dance Invitational
The West Fargo Packatahnas hosted their 15th annual dance and drill competition at the West Fargo High School gymnasium on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Varsity Class A and B teams competing were the West Fargo Packatahnas, Fargo South Bruinkix, Fargo North Spartacas, Moorhead Highlights, Bismarck St Mary’s Santiques, Bismarck High Demonettes, Bismarck Century Centahnas, Central Cass Casseltinas, Frazee Fly Girls, Kindred Vikettes, Thompson Tomettes, and the Valley City Hi-Lites.
Junior Varsity teams from West Fargo, Fargo South, Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Bismarck St Mary’s, Frazee, and Moorhead were present. College teams competing came from NDSU, UND, Concordia, and MSUM. The West Fargo Mystikix, Fargo Fusion, Fargo Ben Franklin Sparkettes, Fargo Carl Ben Aviares, Bismarck Wachter Danzadors, Bismarck Horizon Adajios, and Bismarck St. Mary’s Junior Saintiques were the Junior High teams at the competition.

Local High School Dance and Drill Team Competition Begins for this Season
Local high school dance and drill team competition kicked off their season with the Fargo North Invitational Saturday, December 5 at the Fargo North High School. Varsity Class A and B teams from Fargo North, Fargo South, West Fargo, Moorhead, Halftime by Sheri dance studio, Galaxy Dance Studio, Valley City, Thompson, Dickinson, Larimore, Central Cass, Kindred, Bismarck High, Minot, Bismarck Century, and Mandan competed in high kick, pom, dance and hip hop categories.
College teams competing were NDSU, UND, MSUM, Concordia, and Bemidji State. Junior Varsity teams from Fargo South, West Fargo, Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Moorhead, Mandan, and Minot also competed in pom, kick, and dance categories. The Fargo Fusion, West Fargo Mystikix, Fargo Carl Ben Aviares, Fargo Ben Franklin Sparkettes, and Halftime by Sheri Dazzlers, Sparx, and Diamonds competed at the junior high level.

Packatahnas Kick Off Season in Sioux Falls
The Varsity Packatahnas got the chance to start their competition season early by attending the Champion Crown Cup Competition on November 21. They won first place in the High School Pom Large Group category. They took second place in the High School Jazz division.
The JV Packatahnas were honored to dance at the NDSU Men’s Basketball game this weekend. They performed their pom routine. The teams are looking forward to the next competition at Fargo North on December 5. The teams plan to compete in jazz, pom, kick and hip hop divisions.
