PACKATAHNAS PLACE IN NATIONAL SPIRIT AWARD

The West Fargo Packatahnas have been recognized as one of the top dance programs in the nation, receiving third place in Universal Dance Association’s 2008 American School Spirit Award. Approximately 50 teams entered the contest. The winners were announced in December 2008 and were chosen based on school spirit, community service, volunteerism, and overall team academics.

The Packatahnas’ key mission is to promote pride, honor and bring a high level of energy to every event they attend. They demonstrated their energy and community commitment by participating in multiple events over the last year including: Relay for Life, the American Heart Association Heart Walk, Project Homeless Connect, National Night Out, Project Linus, Girl Scout Step It Up, Metro Youth Partnership Day, Family Literacy Night, the West Fest Parade (and Games To Go), the Fargo Marathon, and the Homecoming Pep Rally. Each year the dancers also host an annual Halloween Carnival, a pancake feed, and a dance show featuring all West Fargo dance organizations.
Other projects included two youth dance camps: the annual Kids camp in June and a Mini Camp in October. The team chose to support the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation with a portion of the proceeds from their camps.

The community and school are very proud of the Packatahnas and their achieve-ments. West Fargo High School Activities Director Curt Jones said this of the dance team: “We are proud of how they have presented themselves as respectful, caring and positive role models, which has made them a very successful team.” “Our Packatahna dance team has been a wonderful ambassador for our high school, community, state and nation,” said Principal Gary Clark.
